A simple and efficient protocol for the one-pot three-component synthesis of tetrahydrobenzo[b] pyrans using acidic ionic liquid N-butylpyridinium dihydrogenphosphate as catalyst under solvent-free conditions is described. This methodology has several advantages such as use of a halogen-free ionic liquid, good yields, short reaction time, easy work-up procedure, and reusable catalyst.
