ABSTRACT This paper will present some current thoughts on the design, construction and operation of vacuum systems for electron storage rings. The material presented is based on experience at Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL), and other laboratories and on proposals for new electron machines throughout the world. A variety of machines will be included, from the compact x-ray lithography light sources, to the very large electron-positron colliders, including the very high current B-factories.
