The fluorescence lifetime is an important characteristic of a molecule and its  environment. Lifetime measurements provide information that is useful in fundamental studies of energy transfer and quenching. Several experimental methods of multicomponent heterogeneous systems analyses are described. In analytical applications, the fluorescence lifetime is an additional parameter that can be used to enhance selectivity or permit multicomponent determinations.
