Available information relevant to genesis of calcium oxalate monohydrate (hereafter COM) renal calculi is reviewed and critically evaluated within the framework of contemporary theory of crystallization from solutions. Theoretical morphology of COM crystals derived from structural aspects is compared to morphology of crystals appearing in uroliths. Based on these considerations the feasible mechanism of COM renal calculi and development is suggested.
