Activation of one or more of the mitogen-activated protein kinase cascades is involved in the development of myocardial hypertrophy. Cardiac cells in culture have provided a useful tool to delineate the functions of these pathways. The specific involvement of each pathway may however vary depending on the physiological context and the parameter used to assess the hypertrophic phenotype.
