ABSTRACT

This review focuses on morphological changes in serotonergic (5-HT) and noroadrenergic (NA) axons induced by repeated stress. In addition, the possible involvement of morphological changes in 5-HT and NA axons in the pathophysiology of clinical depression will be discussed with special reference to the distinctive features of axonal plasticity of these monoamine neurons.
