ABSTRACT This write-up describes an up-to-date but brief review of the unusual reactions of the H-dimethyl phosphonate with oxiranes (epoxides), carbon-carbon and nitrogen-nitrogen double bonds, nitro-cyclohexene and perfluoroolefins, with particular emphasis on recent research. The formation of novel compounds via the cleavage of the oxirane ring, bond-cleavage, addition and rearrangement reactions under free radical reaction conditions, the probable mechanism of their formation and brief description of their mass spectral breakdown behavior are discussed in this communication.
