ABSTRACTThis review article compiles the recent research results obtained by the author in the field of stress corrosion cracking of structural steels, with special emphasis on the fracture mechanics approach and the combination of macro- and micro-analyses. The article is divided into four main sections covering different aspects of the phenomenon, from hydrogen assisted cracking — a specific mechanism whose importance has been demonstrated in the past— to stress corrosion cracking in general.
