ABSTRACT Understanding the kinetics of surface reactions is essential to the advancement of a number of vital technologies, such as semiconductor device fabrication and heterogeneous catalysis. It is the purpose of surface reaction dynamics, a vibrant subfield of surface science, to probe and understand the microscopic acts responsible for the macroscopic kinetic behavior. This accounts discuss the use of final state characterization to probe surface reaction dynamics. Particular emphasis will be on the multidimensional nature of the potential energy surface in surface reactions.
