ABSTRACT

The use of vibrational in situ spectroscopy of electrode surfaces has gained considerable importance in fundamental and applied electrochemistry. The two basically complementary methods are infrared and Raman spectroscopy. Basics of both methods are reviewed briefly, aspects important for application are highlighted. Descriptions of the experimental setups are provided. Examples of the application of both spectroscopies and their methodological variations are presented and discussed.
