ABSTRACT In protophobic aprotic solvents with relatively high permitivities (20 < εr < 65), the formation of higher ion-aggregates from 1:1 electrolytes (MX) was observed by means of conductometry. Observed molar conductivities (Λ/S cm2 mol-1) were quantitatively explained by ion-pairs (M+X-), symmetrical triple ions (M2X+, MX2-) and quadrupoles (M2X2). The conditions for the minimum on Λ – C1/2 curves were represented by computer simulations. The motive forces for ion-aggregates were attributed to hydrogen-bonding and coordination forces as well as the electrostatic force.
