ABSTRACT Recently, a new highly efficient algorithm to treat hardsphere interactions within Brownian Dynamics simulations has been presented. This article is a review of former results concerning phase behavior and dynamics of hard spherical colloids upto very high concentrations. Further the effects of sample dimension and the influence of particle polydispersity on the regime of the colloidal glass transition are discussed. In addition, applicability of the numerical technique to new problems will be considered: (i) quasi-2-dimensional diffusion of colloidal particles in thin layers; (ii) dynamics and structure of colloidal systems containing anisotropic hard particles.
