ABSTRACT Phototherapy has largely been used in dermatology to treat several diseases with success and safety. Cutaneous side effects from ultraviolet light exposure have already been studied and range from simple burns to skin cancer development. Hair and nails, as representative skin appendages, are also susceptible to external insults. It is so far acknowledged that ultraviolet radiation impairs the hair shaft integrity through different molecular mechanisms; nonetheless, hair care during phototherapy remains a neglected point of care.
