ABSTRACT Superhydrophobic zinc-containing coatings inspired by natural surfaces represent relatively new type of functional layers. They combine specific surface properties, like morphology, roughness, surface chemistry, and surface wetting with significant applications for corrosion protection, self-cleaning or anti-icing. This paper presents a concise review of the current knowledge on the superhydrophobic zinc-based coatings, manners of their production via electrochemical methods as well as properties and potential applications.
