ABSTRACT

This paper is focused on experimental data on frictional pressure drop in packed beds with simultaneous upward flow of gas and liquid. An experimental database with 237 observations, selected from 10 papers, is provided. This data bank was emptied of untrendy data. It also contains free and ready-to-use experimental information. A high-order polynomial was used to estimate the experimental variance of the experimental data base. A two-parameter correlation, selected from the literature, was re-optimised using weighted least squares. The goodness of fit of the correlation was tested by means of the Fisher’s statistic. Its average accuracy is 26.84% and it cannot be rejected at a significance level of 0.01.
