ABSTRACT

The development of more sustainable chemical reactions and processes is the focus of recent research activity. Different approaches and methods are devised and amongst them is mechanochemistry, a method where mechanical forces are employed to initiate a chemical reaction. This method using a non-conventional energy source in a solid state is found to have important advantages over classical organic reactions conducted in solution. Recently, there is important progress made in the transfer of organic reactions from solution to automated solvent-free synthesis (ball-milling). Selected examples are presented in this review, which illustrates the mechanochemical method as a very useful synthetic tool, with trends to rapidly expand.
