ABSTRACT

Biocompatibility testing in vitro using human cell preparations is desirable during product development and product surveillence by athorities: In order to find accurate tests we must define cell activities that may be important in the regulation of an inflammatory reaction. Here, the possibility of using the respiratory burst reaction of phagocytes as a marker for biocompatibility testing of materials is reviewed.
