ABSTRACT

Anocentor nitens is a one-host tick that infests mainly horses from the southern of USA to the northern of Argentina.  This review discusses aspects of its geographical distribution, taxonomic position, importance, potential hosts, sites of predilection on host’s body, biology and pheromones.  In addition, some considerations about A. nitens control are pointed out at the end of the article.
