ABSTRACT Trends in modelling and simulation of flow processes in multiphase chemical reactors are presented. Particular emphasis is given to computational fluid dynamics (CFD) models that use the multi-dimensional multi-fluid techniques. Turbulence modelling strategies for both gas/liquid and gas/particle flows are given. The k-є turbulence model with extra production from the dispersed bubble phase is used for gas/liquid flows. The kinetic theory for granular flows is used for gas/particle flows. Submodels for interfacial transfer processes and chemical kinetics modelling are presented. An overview of the numerical solution method is also given. Examples are shown for both gas/liquid as well as gas/particle reactors.
