ABSTRACT Existing theoretical, semi-theoretical or empirical models for the thermal, radiative and fluid mechanical properties of open-cellular porous materials are reviewed to establish predictive models that are applicable to thermal design of various facilities using the open-cellular porous media. The ability of the recommended models for the transport properties in predicting combined conductive and radiative heat transfer, combined forced-convective and radiative heat transfer and gas enthalpy-radiation conversion processes in the open-cellular porous media is also discussed.
