ABSTRACT

The role of Lie algebraic methods in molecular spectroscopy is briefly reviewed. The method, which is a generalization of Heisenberg`s formulation of quantum mechanics, consists in an expansion of the molecular Hamiltonian, H, and transition operators, T, in terms of elements of a Lie algebra, U(n). Both small and large molecules are discussed.
