ABSTRACT The different behaviour of the 1-azatricyclo[3.3.1.13,7]decan-4-one (1-azaadamantan-4-one, 1) in several modifications of the classical Strecker reaction has been studied. A method is described for the synthesis of the 4α-cyano-4β-hydroxy-1-azatricyclo[3.3.1.13,7]decane (2) and for the synthesis of 4β-amino-4α-cyano-1-azatricyclo[3.3.1.13,7]decane (7). The compounds synthesized have been studied by NMR spectroscopy, IR spectroscopy and mass spectrometry.
