Oscillatory natural convection is often observed in material processings. In this paper we review the progress reported in the recent experimental and numerical studies on the oscillatory natural convection by combined heat and mass transfer. Diffusive type convection in the horizontal and vertical layers is considered, and from this perspective, the nature of the flow under the basic physical mechanism is explored.
