ABSTRACT

The entrapment of photosynthetic materials in photo cross-linkable poly(vinylalcohol) polymer bearing styrylpyridinium groups (PVA-SbQ) is a simple physical method that lead to a final preparation with a good strorage stability in a dry state.  The immobilized material can be used to detect pollutants such as herbicides or heavy metals that are responsible for inhibiting photosynthetic electron transfer.  The pollutants are detected under potentiostatic mode using two approaches: the oxygen electrode and an electrochemical micro-cell.  The measurement conditions have been optimized for various entrapped biological materials.  A comparison with an interesting chemical immobilization procedure showed the efficiency of the immobilization in PVA-SbQ.
