ABSTRACT This mini-review focuses on the contryphans, a family of singly disulfide-bonded Conus peptides with approximately 10 amino acid residues. An overview of the biochemistry, molecular biology, structure, and neuropharmacology of contryphans will be presented. One major focus of the review is the remarkable array of post-translational modifications in these peptides. This review also presents the solution structure and information on the targeting specificity of contryphans.
