ABSTRACT

By means of column (CC), thin-layer (TLC) and high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), the carotenoids were found to be present in the leaves of Dactylis glomerata (Gramineae) from different sites. The investigations revealed the presence of the following carotenoids: β-zeacarotene, β-carotene (hydrocarbons), β-cryptoxanthin, lutein, zeaxanthin, antheraxanthin, violaxanthin and neoxanthin (xantophylls). On site from radionuclides (energy plant break down in Charnobyl) in leaves of Dactylis glomerata the presence of anhydroeschscholtzxanthin was found. The investigated leaves from all sites contained large amounts of hydrocarbons (89.3- 96.0%). The total carotenoid content ranged from 214.3 (sun) to 328.0 µg g-1 dry wt (shade).
