ABSTRACT

AlkyI compounds of main group metals e.g. Grignard reagents RMgBr have been known for many years. Useful applications of these compounds were discovered in the early 1900`s. Important applications of transition metal alkyl compounds were discovered somewhat later, in the 1950`s and since that time, the chemistry of these compounds has burgeoned. In this review I will describe some of the work that my co-workers and I have carried out over the last twenty years in the field of transition metal alkyl compounds. I will begin with simple mononuclear metal alkyl compounds and work through bi-nuclear and tri-nuclear compounds to some multimetallic compounds that we have prepared recently.
