ABSTRACT A study on stability of pyridoxal-5`-phosphate (PLP) and pyridoxal (PL) Schiff bases of primary amines and α-amino acids in buffered aqueous solution is described. An analysis of electrode processes, i.e., proton recombination reaction, ECE mechanism and disproportionation in alkaline solutions is performed in relation to acid-base equilibria of the ring and imine nitrogen of the Schiff bases that are essential in enzyme environments.
