The article reviews the extension of the Reformatsky reactions to metals other than zinc, an aspect which has further enlarged the scope of this fundamental reaction. Particular emphasis has been given to the use of low-valent cobalt phosphines complexes for the preparation of the Reformatsky-type intermediates.
