ABSTRACT The synthesis of some photosensitizers covalently bound to solid polymers are discussed along with their chemical, photochemical and photophysical properties. The efficiency of these insoluble polymeric equivalents of the photosensitizers is studied and compared to the efficiency of the monomers. The different properties shown by them are interpreted in terms of the distribution of the chromophores in the polymeric beads and a map of this distribution is proposed. As the polymeric sensitizers have been prepared following the concept of the solid-phase synthesis the suggested distribution model for the functional groups can be extended to any functionalized cross-linked (2% DVB) polystyrene obtained by this method.
