ABSTRACT

The description of the effect of the ionic strength on the most significant acid-base equilibria in electrolytic solutions is reviewed taking into account that dependence of pK values on the ionic strength is clearly a function of activity coefficients of the species involved (ions and neutral molecules) The application of classic treatments and new approaches is discussed. Possible lines of further work in this field are also briefly mentioned.
