ABSTRACT

The Labiatae have economic interest due to the essential oil content of some species of this family. Some species of the Labiatae have been used in traditional medicine since ancient times. The biological activity of these species is frequently related to the diterpenoid content of the species. In this review we will try to show the relationship between the structure (skeleton and oxidation pattern) of the diterpenoids and the botanical classification and geographical distribution of the species analyzed.
