ABSTRACT Metal ions and organic molecular recognition is a subject of considerable interest because of its implications in many fields: biology, medicine, environment, etc. In particular, the detection of metal cations involved in biological processes has received considerable attention. Our aim is to design fluorescent sensors that undergo photophysical changes as marked as possible upon cation binding. In this review, I would like to report fluorescent chemosensors by excimer or exciplex emission for metal ions.
