ABSTRACT

Microbial transformations such as the reduction of dicarbonyl compounds into corresponding enantiopure hydroxycompounds and enantiospecific Baeyer-Villiger oxidation have been used to develop methods in the asymmetric synthesis of functionalised esters like hydroxylactones and epoxyesters. These synthons have been transformed into biological active compounds.
