ABSTRACT

The Argentine  flora is represented by more than 8000 higher plants. Between them, about 20 per cent are referred as medicinal or potentially medicinal, and are suitable to be investigated in search of  new pharmaceutical products. As a way of contributing to this purpose, a list of potentially useful local plants interacting with the gastrointestinal system was compiled in a table encompassing a total of 168  species worthy to be investigated for its potential activity on the stated system. The list contains the binary name of each one  (genus and species), family and  indication(s) according to the folklore medicine and/or its interpretation.
