ABSTRACT

The Phycobiliprotein pigments in the thallus of Lobaria pulmonaria from 10 different sites were identified. In all studied specimens such phycobiliproteins pigments as C- phycoerythrin, C- phycocyanin and allophycocyanin were found. In thallus of Lobaria pulmonaria collected in Kenya such rare phycobiliprotein as allophycocyanin II were found. In cephalodia of thallus Lobaria pulmonaria collected in Kenya and Ireland C-phycocyanin was the predominant phyco-biliprotein, whereas in thallus from remaining sites allophycocyanin was predominant. The total content of phycobiliproteins in the studied material ranged from 0.441 (site Sicily) to 4.715 mg g-1 dry weight (site New Zealand). In the cyanobacteria Nostoc muscorum from cephalodia and in the green alga Dictyochloropsis reticulata from thallus of Lobaria pulmonaria the presence of phytochrome was observed.
